Baseball training is not going to be starting in the province of Saskatchewan just yet after all. A day after Baseball Sask told its members they could get back to practices, they've had to amend that statement.

"I just received some very disappointing news from Sask Sport," said Baseball Sask executive director Mike Ramage in a statement, "that the Government of Saskatchewan has back-tracked on their decision to allow baseball to start immediately in Saskatchewan. They have now changed the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan regarding outdoor sports."

The government confirmed in a press release late last week that even training for outdoor sports, including baseball, could not start until phase four began. The province does not yet have a confirmed date for that phase.

"Outdoor sports and activities, such as baseball and soccer, cannot begin training/practicing until the first part of Phase 4," read the provincial release. "The dates for that part of the phase will be announced early (this) week. The Outdoor Sports and Activities Guidelines were included in the updated plan to provide organizations with advance notice to support planning and preparations. The guidelines have been revised to clarify the timing."

Baseball Sask has, therefore, had to put all its training back in a suspended state. They said players may train with weights or do other conditioning exercises but cannot train with bats, balls, helmets, or catcher's gear.

"We hope to once again be given the permanent green light to train and play very soon," said Ramage.
