The Moose Jaw Rebels got to follow in the footsteps of their favourite Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday as they took part in the Saskatchewan Youth Flag Football Regional Championship at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

The Rebels just missed the playoff round after posting a 3-2 record during their five games on the day. Their only two losses came against the two teams that ended up playing in the final.

The Rebels, which is made up of 10 and 11-year-old players from the Moose Jaw Youth Flag Football League, started with back-to-back losses before finishing with three straight wins. 

The local squad opened with an 8-0 loss to the Bomb Squad and a 7-6 loss to the Da Bears. The Rebels found its stride with a 14-12 win over the Riders and then a 28-0 thrashing of the Pirates. They finished off their day with a 16-6 win over the Saskatoon Huskies.

The Da Bears and Bomb Squad would advance to the playoff round out of the Rebels’ pool and both meet in the final with the Bomb Squad taking a 19-15 win to take the title.
