The Moose Jaw Warriors alumni golf tournament entered new territory this year as the event broke the six-figure mark in fundraising for the first time.

The sixth annual K+S Potash Canada Golf Tournament, held earlier this month, brought in $100,048 for the Warriors Education Fund, which is a new record for the event.

“It's been a bench mark that we set out two or three years ago, trying to hit that $100,000 mark and now we push our goals a little higher,” said Todd Hudson, tournament committee chair.

“It's pretty exciting to be able to do that and hats off to the community of Moose Jaw, the businessmen in town and everybody who was involved in this golf tournament, it's unbelievable.”

The tournament plays a big part in helping the Warriors' organization to provide their post-secondary scholarships for players with 31 players taking advantage of the scholarship program in 2015-16 for a total of $142,103.

Since 1993, the Western Hockey League has awarded more than 5,200 scholarships to graduate players. This past season, 328 WHL graduates used the WHL scholarship at 82 different post-secondary schools across North America.

“I can't say enough about Todd Hudson and our golf committee that have really built this tournament up over the last number of years,” said Alan Millar, general manager of the Warriors. “It's really supported by our community and in particular, a lot of businesses and a lot of major sponsors.

“With the support of our present players and our alumni, it's really turned into a special event that certainly looks after our players' futures and the education fund.”

Hudson added that the tournament committee will continue to push to grow the tournament.

“If you're satisfied with what you're doing, you'll go backwards, so you've got to keep pushing the goals,” he said. “I just want to thank everybody involved, it takes a lot of work and a lot of time and hats off to everybody.”
