After two losses to open their road trip, the Moose Jaw Warriors will attempt to get back on track on Tuesday night as they head into Kennewick, Washington to meet up with the Tri-City Americans.

The Warriors lost 2-1 in overtime on Friday in Kootenay and then dropped a 5-2 game to the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday to open their six-game road trip to the U.S. Division.

Claiming just one out of a possible four points in the first two games of the trek was not that start that the Tribe was looking for. They'll be looking for a much different result against the Americans on Tuesday.

“The past two games were opposites,” said 20-year-old forward Dryden Hunt. “In Cranbrook, we figured it out at the end and played well, but in Spokane, we had a great start and kept with them for most of the game, then they got on the power play and scored some goals, which deflated us.

“Hopefully we can play a solid sixty minutes against Tri-City and we should be good.”

It all starts with their start for the Tribe. When the Warriors are leading after the first period, they're 7-0-0-0 on the year, but they have yet to win a game when trailing after the first period, posting a 0-5-1-0 mark.

“Coming from behind is always tough and we kind of shoot ourselves in the foot by doing that,” said Hunt. “Scoring the first goal would be huge, it gives everyone on the bench confidence, things are positive when you get the first goal.”

The Warriors haven't scored first in a game since they opened the scoring in the first period against Red Deer almost two weeks ago. Noah Gregor got Moose Jaw on the board early in that game, but the Rebels scored four answered after that.

Moose Jaw has lost four straight, giving up the first goal in each of the past three games.

“We've tried to hold until the third period in these last few games, so a quick start will be big for us on Tuesday night and just trying to get that big start and then hold that effort for the whole game,” said Gregor.

Gregor has been one of the few bright spots for the Warriors to open their road trip. The 17-year-old forward scored their lone goal on Friday against the Ice and had one of two goals against the Chiefs on Saturday.

In 23 games this season, Gregor now has 11 goals, including a WHL-leading seven on the power play, and 27 points.

“My confidence is really up right now, I'm shooting the puck more than I would at the start of the year and I'm being able to use my speed to go around guys that I wouldn't have tried to earlier,” said Gregor. “The biggest thing is my confidence.”

A complete effort across the board for the Warriors will be key heading into a stretch of four games in five nights to finish off their road trip this week.

Hunt said having the past few days off has been great for the team to regroup and get ready to go.

“Four-in-five is tough, especially against these American teams when you're travelling city-to-city, so it's good to get some time off here and then get back to work,” he said.

“It's up to us older guys and leaders to keep all our young players heads on straight and motivate them because losing a couple of games on the road, it's tough to get back on track, so hopefully us older guys can figure it out and lead the way.”

The Warriors battle the Americans on Tuesday night at the Toyota Center. This is the only meeting between the two teams this season, Moose Jaw topped the Americans 5-0 at Mosaic Place last year.

Tri-City currently sits last in the U.S. Division with a 9-13-1-0 record, while the Warriors enter third in the East Division with an 11-8-3-1 record.
