Registration is now open for girls looking to tryout for the Thunder Creek Volleyball Club teams.

The teams will be split into the following age categories:

  • 14U Athletes born from Sept. 1, 2007 to Dec. 31, 2008
  • 15U Athletes born from Sept. 1, 2006 to Dec. 31, 2007
  • 16U Athletes born from Sept. 1, 2005 to Dec. 31, 2006
  • 17U Athletes born from Sept. 1, 2004 to Dec. 31, 2005

Coach Joe Gunnis talked about how many roster spots will likely be available.

“Right now, we're planning to run two 14U teams, two 15U teams, a 16U team and a 17U team. The roster spots will be up to the coaches, but usually anywhere from 10 to 12 spots per team,” he said.

Tryouts will be taking place on Nov. 21 at the Peacock Collegiate gymnasium. The 14U tryouts will be from 2 to 2:30 p.m., 15U from 3:30 to 5 p.m., and the 16U and 17U tryouts from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Despite the pandemic, the Thunder Creek Volleyball Club is expecting to get a full season of games and tournaments.

“Obviously, we'll have to adhere to the rules with masking and that type of thing, but it sounds like tournaments will be allowed and they've set their Sask Cups and provincials for dates. So right now, it should be a full season barring anything happening in the future,” Gunnis said.

You can register for the tryouts through the Thunder Creek Volleyball Club website and click on the age category for more information and to register. Players must register before attending tryouts.

Along with the club teams, the Thunder Creek Volleyball Club is also running a developmental program this year for players in Grades 5 to 8.

“We practice on Sundays to develop skills and then do a little gameplay towards the end of practice as well,” Gunnis said.

“So, it's an opportunity for those that want to try volleyball and see if they like it, plus also gain the skills necessary to continue to improve and get to that point where they'll be looking to make that club team at the 14U level after.”

The developmental program is currently full and there is a waiting list for players to join. They will be hitting the court for the first time on Nov. 28 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
