The Moose Jaw Minor Football League playoffs opened with a pair of peewee quarterfinal matches on Tuesday.

The fourth place Moose Jaw Riders won 30-12 over the fifth place Moose Jaw Lions here in the Friendly City at Elks Field to advance into semifinals on Friday.

The Lions opened the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown by Mason Daviduk early in the first quarter, but Ryan Vincent answered for the Riders just 59 seconds later with a 48-yard scored.

The Riders took a 16-6 lead just over three minutes later when Dylan Boughan scored for 44 yards out.

The score stayed that way until late in the third quarter when Evan Callaghan punched in a touchdown from seven yards out to make it 22-6.

The Lions started to mount a comeback early in the fourth when Matthew Cunningham scored a three-yard touchdown with 9:04 to go in the game, but a second touchdown from Callaghan with 2:05 left sealed the win for the Riders.

The Riders will now face the first place Moose Jaw Vikings in the semifinal on Friday at 8:00pm at Elks Field.

In out-of-town action on Tuesday, the third place Estevan Charges topped the sixth place Weyburn Ravens, 28-13, to advance into the other semifinal. They'll play the second place Weyburn Eagles on Saturday at 12:00pm.

Also coming up on Friday at Elks Field will be the MJMFL Memorial Bowl, which will feature the Moose Jaw Bombers hosting Assiniboia Rockets. Kick-off is at 6:30pm.

The bantam division semifinals are set for Saturday with the fifth place Moose Jaw Razorbacks heading to Swift Current to face the first place Steelers, while the third place Moose Jaw Raiders are in Weyburn to battle the second place Falcons.
