Despite falling down 17-0 in the first quarter, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were able to make a game of their Week 10 match-up with the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Riders outscored Edmonton 16-0 in the third quarter to get back into the game, but they couldn’t finish the comeback as the Eskimos held on for a 33-25 win at Commonwealth Stadium.

The loss was the fifth straight for Saskatchewan and dropped their record to 1-8 on the season.

The Riders’ offence had a very solid bounce back performance after going almost two full games without a touchdown.

Darian Durant finished 27-of-38 for 314 yards.  He also added two rushing touchdowns.

Kendial Lawrence scored the other major for the Riders, finding the end zone on a five-yard run with just three minutes to go to pull Saskatchewan within a score of Edmonton.

A turnover on downs on their next possession would end the Riders’ chances of coming back.

Naaman Roosevelt had a massive game for the Riders, finishing with 11 catches for 175 yards, while Caleb Holley added seven catches for 65 yards.

Edmonton’s offence was efficient, scoring on their first three possessions to open up the big 17-point first quarter lead.

Mike Reilly only misses on five passes all night as he threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns.  He was intercepted once by Ed Gainey.

Edmonton running back Shakir Bell filled in nicely for John White, as he carried the ball 18 times for 138 yards.

On the receiving front, Adarius Bowman had a team-high 81 yards on four catches, while Derel Walker was held to just 50 yards on three catches.  It was the second straight week that both receivers were held under 100 yards.

The Riders will take the weekend to regroup and then start preparing for the Labour Day Classic against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers next Sunday.
