The Saskatchewan Roughriders defence has allowed a 100-yard rusher only twice this season, but Calgary's Jon Cornish was one of them when he went off for 159 yards in Week 9's 17-10 Stampeders win at Mosaic Stadium.

Head coach Corey Chamblin guaranteed earlier this week that wouldn't happen again when the Green and White and Stampeders collide for the third time this season on Sunday, and his defence was backing him up on Thursday after practice.

"He's the boss, so things like that have got to go down," said defensive tackle Mick Williams.  "We've just got to come out here and work and play hard."

"That's our job," added Richie Hall, the Riders defensive coordinator.  "Our job is to keep them out of the end zone, our job is to minimize their gains and our job is to control the opposition's offence."

Linebacker Tyron Brackenridge says the guarantee doesn't change anything for them because that's their mindset coming into every game, "We go into every game to shut somebody down, to guarantee that we're going to win, that's just the mind frame that you've got to have, that's a winning mentality, and that's all he's trying to put in our heads.

"It starts with us, it starts with each player.  We've got to come out on the first hit ready to go, we can't let them hit us in the mouth and then wake up, we've got to be the ones to deliver the blow."

Safety Craig Butler says it just shows the confidence that Chamblin has in his defence to get the job done this week, "We're 5-6 right now, and everybody says we could be this and that, but we're confident.  They're coming into our house, it's going to be packed, it's going to be crazy and we're going to have that on our side, so that confidence, he says it and then it goes through the entire team."

The Riders did shut down Cornish in the two teams first meeting of the season, holding the running back to just 39 yards on 11 carries, but in that game Nik Lewis killed the Riders with three touchdown catches in a come-from-behind 41-38 overtime win for Calgary.

"The last couple times we've played them, we gave them the game," said Brackenridge.  "The first time we played them, we gave it up in the fourth quarter, and the last time they came here, they jumped out on us in the first two drives, but they didn't touch the end zone after that.  We need to have the mind frame of how we started the first time we played them and finish the way we did the second time."

Hall says it comes down to not allowing Calgary to control the tempo of the game, "We can't let them control the football game with the run because it puts a lot pressure on you defensively and it puts a lot of pressure on you offensively because they're controlling the flow of the game."

The Riders and Stampeders face off at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday at 2:00pm.
