It’s a week later, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders are hoping for a repeat performance on Sunday when they take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl from Canad Inns Stadium.

In last weekend’s Labour Day Classic, the Riders rolled to a 52-0 win over the Bombers at Mosaic Stadium.

“I told the guys that it’s solely up to them if they want to repeat,” said head coach Corey Chamblin.  “It wasn’t the schemes (that won the game), it was the players that took it upon themselves to play football.”

The Riders headed into the Labour Day game needing a win as they were riding a five-game losing streak, but everything has been good this week after the big win.

Chamblin says he expects the Bombers to come out hard after being embarrassed last week, “I think we have something to prove to.  I know they’re dealing with somethings over there, but it’s not like we’re 11-0, we’re fighting for our lives to get back in the hunt in the West.”

The Green & White will be heading into hostile territory this weekend at Canad Inns Stadium as they are 4-4 all-time in the Banjo Bowl.

Durant says they need to be ready to come out fast, “A tough environment for us.  It's going to be live in that place.

“That place can get rowdy also, so if we can take their crowd out of the game, that allows us to execute our game plan a little easier.”

The Riders were able to do that in last week’s win as they scored on their first three possessions to go up 21-0 before Winnipeg even got started.

The offence was balanced in the win with Durant finding his passing groove -- before leaving with an injury in the third -- and running back Kory Sheets going over 100 yards for the first time.  Durant says they need to keep balance this week.

“They have a great defensive line, a great pass rush, and if you put those tight ends in there, chipping those guys, it makes it that much harder for them to rush the QB.”

The Riders and Bombers hit the field on Sunday morning at 11:00am.
