The Saskatchewan Roughriders have been busy to start free agency and that continued on Monday.

After trading for Hughes at the start of the month, the Riders have now signed the all-star defensive end to a contract extension that will keep him in Saskatchewan through the 2019 season.

The 10-year CFL veteran has 99 quarterback sacks and has been named a CFL all-star on four occasions, including each of the past two seasons.

In 2017, Hughes had 41 defensive tackles, 11 sackes, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

In other news, the Riders continued to load up on Canadian talent over the weekend.

They signed three nationals on Friday, adding running back Johnny Augustin, defensive back Adam Laurensse and defensive lineman Cory Robinson. All three don’t have any CFL experience.

Augustin played five seasons at the University of Guelph, finishing with 2,921 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns in 37 games.

Laurensse and Robinson are both products of the University of Calgary Dinos program. Laurensse had 125 defensive tackles and 16 interceptions over five seasons, while Robinson had 86.5 defensive tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 14 quarterback sacks in four seasons.

The Riders then signed free agent receiver Jake Harty to a two-year contract on Sunday. He played his first three CFL seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks, registering 36 catches for 307 yards and one touchdown in 34 career games.

Harty has played in three career playoff games and two Grey Cups, winning in 2016 with the Redblacks.
