We'll find out what the Saskatchewan Roughriders are made of starting on Friday night.

It’s Week 1 in the Canadian Football League with all nine teams still holding hopes of capturing the Grey Cup title.

The Riders will get to measure themselves against the defending champions in their opening game as they prepare to battle the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night at Mosaic Stadium.

This game will just be a start in the months long season, but Head Coach Chris Jones said they can learn a lot about the team when the lights come on.

"Each team, they create their own identity," he said. "We'll call the plays and we'll determine the make-up of the football team on the field, but we'll know a lot more about our team starting (Friday) night."

This week has been an interesting one in Riderville as Jones started the week by saying he knows who will be starting at quarterback, but wouldn't be revealing that ahead of Friday's game.

Zach Collaros was listed as the team's starter in the depth chart released by the Riders on Thursday, but Jones remained tight lipped on if that was the plan.

"We'll see, we'll see," he said on whether it would Collaros or Brandon Bridge under centre.

"They've both worked extremely hard, they know what their roles are and how exactly things are going to work out and we know for sure that both of them are good football players, so we look forward to seeing them perform."

For Collaros part, he said he hasn't paid much attention to the conversation surrounding who's starting.

If he does start, this will be Collaros' first regular season game action since throwing three passes in the season finale last Oct. He hasn't seen extended game action since last Aug.

"I'm just ready to play football, I'm excited about the group that we have here, it's a great locker room, guys that really care about each other and love the game and that's all you can really ask for," said Collaros.

Whoever does end up starting will need some better protection than what the Riders had during last week's preseason finale, a 39-12 loss to Calgary.

"Having a week together, knowing who's in there, I think that's going to help us (along the offensive line)," said Jones.

The Argonauts come in with a similar team to the one that capture the Grey Cup title seven months ago. They're still led by veteran quarterback Ricky Ray, which makes them a tough challenge on that fact alone.

"He's very efficient with the football," said Ray. "You can look at the first drive of the year last year, which we watched this morning, he's going to throw the football where his guys can catch it, he's going to manage it, he's not going to take sacks, he's going to get the ball out of his hand.

"He's top-three to ever play in this league for a reason because he does things the right way."

The Riders and Argonauts kick-off at 7 p.m. from Mosaic Stadium.
