The Saskatchewan Roughriders acquired national safety Mike Edem earlier this month and he’ll be sticking around with the Green and White for the next couple of seasons.

Edem signed a contract extension with Saskatchewan on Wednesday that will keep him with the Riders through the 2018 season.

The 27-year-old Edem was added by the Riders in a trade with the B.C. Lions that saw the teams also swap conditional picks in the 2018 CFL Draft.

Edem (6-foot-1, 210 pounds) was originally drafted by the Montreal Alouettes with the third overall pick in the 2013 CFL Draft. He was dealt to Hamilton during his third season in the league and signed with the Lions as a free agent before the 2016 season.

In 60 career regular season games, he has 91 defensive tackles, 29 special teams tackles, six interceptions and five sacks. Edem was a 2013 East Division All-Star and the Als’ Most Outstanding Rookie nominee that season.

The Riders will kick-off their 2017 training camp on May 28 at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.
