The Saskatchewan Roughriders were able to sign a few players on the official start of the signing period for CFL free agency.

Evan Johnson, an offensive lineman from the University of Saskatchewan who played the last few seasons with the Ottawa RedBlacks, agreed to terms with the club,

Also reportedly signing with the club are American D-lineman Micah Johnson, American linebacker Larry Dean and Candian linebacking twins Jordan and Justin Herdman-Reed. Micah Johnson, personally confirming the signing on Twitter, has led all tackles in sacks over the past four CFL seasons. 

The Riders also are reported to have picked up Canadian defensive back Godfrey Onyeka, a second-round pick of Edmonton in 2018 with 27 CFL games under his belt. Onyeka had 13 special teams tackles in 2019. American defensive lineman Lorenzo Jerome will also be with the Riders this year, after seven games in 2019 witht he Stampeders. 

Elsewhere early on the first day of the CFL free agency, the Edmonton football club signed running back James Wilder, Jr., a 28-year-old who signed for Montreal in 2020 but retired during the pandemic to coach at his former high school. 

The Calgary Stampeders, meanwhile, were linked with Canadian quarterback Michael O'Connor, most recently with the Argos.
