Zach Collaros was back on the practice field on Wednesday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders started their preparations for Sunday's Western Semi-Final.

Despite his return, Chris Jones isn't rushing to name Collaros the starter for this week's playoff showdown with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium.

"We're going to take it day-by-day and we'll let you know later in the week whether he'll be ready to go or not," the Riders' head coach told the media after practice.

"[Collaros] passed all the protocol and that type thing, it's pretty much in the trainer's hands just to make sure that we're never going to put a guy out there and put him at risk, so if he passes all that stuff and he's able to show that he can compete and compete at a high level then he'll play."

Collaros left the Riders' regular-season finale two weeks ago after taking a hit to the head from B.C. Lions defensive end Odell Willis. It was the third time this season that Collaros left a game with a head injury.

He passed the concussion protocol a couple of days ago and has been cleared to practice.

Collaros said he's feeling fine, "It feels good to be out there on the field with the guys, practicing and getting ready for a big game this weekend against a great opponent," he said.

"You have to show them that you can think fast and be clear out there, so that's what I’m going to do."

The Riders added some veteran insurance in case Collaros can't go with the signing of Drew Tate on the weekend.

"Drew is here and if Zach runs into some complications he'll be the number three and he's preparing like he'll play and if called upon, he'll be ready," said Jones.

The Riders will continue to practice this week in the lead-up to Sunday’s meeting with the Bombers at Mosaic Stadium. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m.
