The Moose Jaw Rockies of the Intermediate/Junior/Senior division of North Regina Little League won their first playoff game 15-7 over the Regina Suns last night.

Rockies assistant coach Chad Morash said the team has gelled well this season.

“It was a good turnout and we had a lot of players,” Morash said. “The fight right now is trying to get guys playing time. We’re trying to get guys pitching that haven’t gotten a lot of pitching this year, but it’s all good.”

Morash feels one of the strengths of the team is its depth.

“We feel like we can put just about any of our players at any position,” he said. “We’ve rotated them all year. We have 15 kids on the roster and we’ve had 14 of them hit the mound. So we’ve got lots of pitching options and kids to play all over.”

The Rockies were in a position to loan a pair of players to the Suns, who showed up with seven players for the playoff tilt. Rockies leadoff hitter Nolan Novak had three runs in the game, while Brady Jones and Nick Lougheed had a pair of runs each.

The win puts Moose Jaw in the semifinal Sunday in Regina.

“We’ll have maybe two practices here before that game happens and be ready for them come Sunday,” Morash said.

A win Sunday would put them in the finals Sept. 17-18.
