There was nothing to play for in respect to the standings, but the Saskatchewan Rush accomplished a lot in their regular season-ending 11-10 win over the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday night at SaskTel Centre.

Rush forward Mark Matthews finished with six assists and seven points in the win, which allowed him to set the National Lacrosse League's single-season record for assists with 84 and break his own franchise record for points with 116, which also gave Matthews his first NLL scoring title.

"It's pretty cool when you can set a record, but it's all to do with the guys on the team," Matthews told SaskRush.com after the win. "There's no assist if they don't score and sometimes those guys can score at will. They make it happen and that makes my job easier."

The record setting assist came in the fourth quarter on Saturday as Matthews fired a pass to Dan Dawson, who beat Calgary goalie Del Bianco for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

"The biggest thing for Mark is he is such an unselfish player," said Rush GM/head coach Derek Keenan. "He could care less about goals, assists and points. He only cares about wins and winning championships.

"He's been pretty dialed in all year after we didn't win it all last year. He's had a great year and he's a special player."

Matthews posted the fourth straight 100-point season and broke his own franchise record, which was set in 2015 when he had 115 points.

The Rush entered the game with first place overall in the league already locked up, but the win allowed them to finish with a perfect 10-0 record against the West Division this season. They also swept the season series against the rival Roughnecks for the second time in the past three seasons.

After losing their previous game to Georgia, Keenan said they had the type of effort in Saturday's win that he was looking for going into the NLL Playoffs.

"It was tight, I thought it was hotly contested even though there wasn't anything on the line in the standings, but it was a tight game and I thought we played real hard," said Keenan.

"With another bye next week, but going into playoffs, this was a playoff style game and I thought we faced a lot of adversity tonight too, we're the least penalized team in the league and suddenly tonight we had a whole bunch of them, but we did a great job of killing them for the most part."

Ben McIntosh and Jeff Shattler scored the only two goals in the first quarter as the Rush opened up a 2-0 lead.

McIntosh picked up his second of the game, while Matthew Dinsdale and Ryan Keenan also found the back of the net in the second quarter, but the Roughnecks struck back with five goals to send the game into halftime even at 5-5.

The Rush took back control coming out of the break and scored four times in the third quarter to move in front 9-6. McIntosh completed the hat trick in the frame, Shattler picked up his second, while Robert Church and Matthews scored for the first time in the game.

McIntosh scored his fourth of the game just 1:30 into the fourth quarter to make it a four-goal lead for the Rush and it was needed as Calgary struck four times in the fourth, but Dawson's goal with 5:58 remaining was the difference for Saskatchewan.

Rush goalie Evan Kirk made 36 saves to pick up the win.

Saskatchewan will now be off for the week before hosting the West Division Final on May 10. They will take on the winner of the West Semifinal between Calgary and the Colorado Mammoth in Denver this coming Saturday.
