A big third period helped propel the Moose Jaw Sabres to one win away from the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association’s Peewee B Division title.

The Sabres skated to a 6-5 win over the Caronport Cougars on Tuesday night at the Kinsmen Arena.

The loss was Caronport’s first of the playoffs. These two teams will now meet in a rematch at a still to-be-determined date to decide the division champion.

Noah Osiowy opened the scoring for Caronport just 1:36 into the game, but Jaxyn Rayner was able to answer for the Sabres with 1:03 to go in the opening period to tie the game at 1-1 after one.

The second was all Cougars in the early going. Cooper Erickson scored 2:10 into the frame to make it 2-1; Osiowy added his second of the game only 1:17 later; and then Erickson potted his second of the period just over two minutes later to make it a 4-1 game.

The Sabres fought back just past the midway point of the period as Rayner picked up his second of the game. Benjamin King followed that up three minutes later to make it 4-3, but Osiowy completed the hat trick for Caronport with 2:06 left in the second to make it a two-goal game.

That was no problem for the Sabres, who came out flying in the third period and closed that gap with goal from Rayner and Brady Lamb just over two minutes apart in the opening seven minutes to tie the game.

Kohen Millar scored for the Sabres with 4:15 to go to complete the comeback win.

Rayner led the Sabres with a hat trick, while Osiowy had a hat trick and Erickson finished with four points in the loss for Caronport.

Coming up on Wednesday night, the Moose Jaw Peewee A Warriors continue their Hockey Regina League playoff run in the Queen City. They face the Prairie Storm Thunder at 8 p.m. at the Cooperators Centre.
