Davidson's Nolan Allan scored his second of the game to lift Team Saskatchewan to a 4-3 overtime win over Team Alberta on the opening day of the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

Moose Jaw's Kirk Mullen had one assist in the win, while Warriors prospect Brett Mirwald turned away 40 shots to backstop Saskatchewan to the win.

Alberta's Kai Uchacz opened the scoring only 2:31 into the game, but Saskatoon's Karter Prosofsky answered back 2:17 later to tie the game at 1-1.

2018 WHL first overall pick Dylan Guenther would put Alberta back in front just past the midway point of the first period.

Allan’s first of the game tied Saskatchewan with Alberta at 2-2 early in the second period, but Lethbridge's Zack Stringer restored the host team's lead when he scored with 3:18 left in the second.

Mullen would set up Kindersley's Logan Linklater for the game-tying goal with 9:39 left to play in the third period.

Allan potted the winner for Saskatchewan with 3:17 remaining in the overtime period.

Team Sask will return to the ice on Sunday take on Team B.C. They face-off at 1:30 p.m.

In other men's hockey action from Day 1, Warriors first-round pick Eric Alaire and Team Manitoba edged B.C., 4-2.

MJ's Doyon Disqualified in Opening Race

Moose Jaw's Marc-André Doyon had a disappointing opening race at the 2019 Canada Winter Games as he was disqualified in the men's 1,500-metre long track speed skating race.

Doyon will look to rebound on Sunday when he competes in the 500m and Team Pursuit events.
