In his second season away from the Western Hockey League, former Moose Jaw Warriors goaltender Zach Sawchenko is having a stellar season with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.

Sawchenko was named the WHL Graduate of the Month for January after posting a perfect 5-0-0 record during the month.

During his five games, Sawchenko stopped 88 of the 92 shots he faced, including two shutouts, giving him four this season, which has tied the Canada West conference single-season record.

Sawchenko has a 15-2-0-1 record this season with the Golden Bears. His sparkling 1.49 goals against average is the best in U Sports, while his 0.924 save percentage is ninth in the country.

The Calgary product is first in the Can West in goals against average, second in wins and save percentage.

Sawchenko won back-to-back Eastern Conference Goalie of the Year awards during his time with the Warriors. He posted an 88-65-12-4 record in 177 career games, including a 3.11 GAA and 0.908 save percentage.

Sawchenko and the Golden Bears are back on the ice this weekend against the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
