The high school sports season kicked off in September with some outstanding performances and the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association honoured those performances with this week's Athlete of the Month awards.

Peacock's Alyssa Roney and Central's Kal McGillis have put together strong cross country seasons to pick up the honour for their schools.

Central quarterback Ethan Johnson shared the Athlete of the Month honour with McGillis.

Two other football players picked up awards with Tyler Stigall taking the honour for Briercrest Christian Academy and Cole Coroy winning for Vanier Collegiate.

Volleyball players Ben Lewis and Kirsten Hunter were the Athlete of the Month for Cornerstone and Riverview, respectively.
