For the second week in a row, the Original 16 Cash League last night had a game come down to the last shot where Ralph Courtnage nearly came back from being down by two in the last end.

This time at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, it was the Danielle Sicinski BTN rink (4-0) that was able to hang on for the win, maintaining her undefeated season in the cash league.

Sicinski had a 7-4 lead when Courtnage’s Walchuk Masonary rink (2-2) was forced to only take a single with the hammer in the seventh end, giving Sicinski the hammer and a two point lead coming home. Courtnage played it as well as he could have, using his final stone to split a pair of stones in tight and leaving Penny Barker not much room to try to get her stone into the rings.

Barker placed her shot well, only allowing a steal of one by Courtnage, but enough for the win.

Courtnage is always a tough competitor in the cash league, a fact recognized by Sicinski.

“He definitely makes lots of shows and you definitely have to return those great shots, too,” he said.”Even to end that game, that split that he made, that was a game changer as well. That was a great shot he made there. And Penny (Barker) had to come through and make her final shot count.”

It helps Sicinski to have her longtime skip Barker throwing final stones.

“The biggest thing is just… having fun, being relaxed, and helping each other out when something doesn’t go great and finding those positives,” said Sicinski. “And just realizing it is just a game. Every time we step out, we want to win. But sometimes games or shots might not go your way. It’s all about rebounding from them and just having fun out there.”

Including Sicinski and Barker, three-quarters of the cash league team will be heading to the Regina Callie Club for a Saskatchewan women's curling tour stop this weekend.

Lorraine Arguin’s Easy Care Living rink (1-3) defeated Bob Desjarlais’ Kal Tire rink (3-1) 7-3, Ryan Wenarchuk’s John’s Music rink (2-2) dominated the EMJ Marketing Rink of Joe Gunnis (1-3) 10-1,

Wade Gray and the Protec Video rink (2-2) defeated Matt Froehlich (1-3) 8-2, Ben Gamble’s KMS rink (4-0) stayed undefeated with their win over the Barb Wallace rink (1-3) 8-4, Donna Ackerman’s Forged 365 rink (2-2) took a win from Main Street Strength and Jazmin Ackerman (0-4) 8-5, the Protec Electric rink of Stan Barnsley defeated the Cindy Simmons’ Noyes rink (0-4) 10-0 and Joel Jordison’s Seaborn Insurance rink (3-0) defeated the Murray Stroeder Tax Team rink (3-1) 8-3.

The league continues next Wednesday night with their fifth league night.
