The Assiniboia Southern Rebels suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, but still came away with a split of their weekend road trip.

The Rebels opened the trek with a 4-2 win over the West Central Rage in Kerrobert on Saturday, but then were doubled up by the Delisle Chiefs, 6-3, on Sunday.

Rebels 4 Rage 2

Assiniboia struck early and often during Saturday's win over the Rage.

Former Moose Jaw Generals' captain, Trey Tendler scored a pair of goals late in the first period for the Rebels to make it 2-0 after one.

Ty Anderson added to the lead 3:37 into the second period. Taylor Cowie put the Rebels in front 4-0 with an unassisted shorthanded marker with just under five minutes to go in the second.

West Central picked up a power play goal from Masen Carriere and a shorthanded goal by Dawson Morrell late in the third to finish off the game.

Rebels goalie Braedyn Lysak turned away 32 of 34 shots to pick up the win between the pipes.

Riley Malone had two assists in the win for the Rebels.

Chiefs 6 Rebels 3

A pair of power play goals in the second period for Delisle ended up being the Rebels undoing in Sunday's contest.

The Chiefs held a 2-1 after one thanks to Tysen Smith scoring with 32 seconds to go in the frame. Delisle's Jase Smalcel and Assiniboia's Devin McGonigal had traded goals early in the period.

It remained a one goal game until late in the second period. McGonigal was called for a five-minute major for head contact with 4:16 to go in the frame and the Chiefs made them pay.

After Brett Leslie took a tripping penalty to send the Rebels down 5-on-3, the Chiefs' Dawson Atamanchuk scored with 2:06 to go in the period and Josh Atkinson struck 23 seconds later to make it 4-1 after two.

Josh Reinbolt gave Delisle a 5-1 lead 1:41 into the third period, before late goals from Jacob Eger and Riley Malone finished off the scoring for the Rebels.

Eger had a goal and two points in the loss, while Lane Cayer picked up two assists.

Nolan Berner took the loss in net, allowing four goals on 24 shots before giving way to Lysak in the third. He stopped 10 of 12 shots.

The Rebels now sit at 4-1-0 on the year. They return to the ice on Tuesday in Regina against the Capitals.
