A season of hard work paid off at the final meet of the season for the Moose Jaw Rotary Track Club.

The local club had seven different athletes claim a medal over the weekend in Saskatoon.

“Another very successful meet, we had lots of personal bests again and brought home some more hardware,” said Rotary Track Club coach Scott Mitchell.

The strong showing in the last meet of the season is a good sign for the track club, which returned to the scene this year. Mitchell said the athletes have been seeing the benefits of training and competing year-round.

“The kids have worked very hard and have been very consistent with their training,” said Mitchell. “That all paid off in the end.”

Jayden Palaschuk won a pair of gold medals, finishing first in the bantam girls 800 and 1,200-metre races.

Akuol Riak picked up a silver medal in midget girls 800m and then combined with Kendall Evans, Aria Swanson and Neleah Schauenberg to take bronze in the midget girls sprint medley relay.

Vera Gauvin had a couple of big personal bests and also claimed a bronze medal in the midget girls 1,200m. Kal McGillis also picked up a bronze in the senior men’s 1,500m.

Morgan Kilgour didn’t hit the podium, but posted a couple of strong personal best times.

The club’s athletes will now turn their focus to the high school track and field season.
