The Central Cyclones and Peacock Tornadoes were neck-and-neck during first half action on Thursday at Sunningdale Field.

A late goal by the Tornadoes evened them up with the Cyclones at 1-1 heading into the second half, but Central went to work over the final 45 minutes and came away with a 4-2 win over Peacock in Moose Jaw High School Girls Soccer League action.

“The second half we were really focused on keeping our cool, the first half was challenging, but in the second half, we were able to cool our heads, work on our passes and inevitably get them in the net,” said Central senior Nyomi Hysuick.

Fawzia Abdella scored in the first half for Central, while Didumo Omot, Leayne Young-Geiger and Dah Mu all scored in the second half as the Cyclones pulled away.

Makayla McRoberts and Jayme Hoffman were the two goal scorers for the Tornadoes in the loss.

“I thought they played wonderful,” said Peacock head coach Alysha Evans. “The first half, we gave it our all, we were pretty matched with Central and then there were a few times that we fell apart as team, but we played a hard game.”

While the Tornadoes put together a strong game, Evans feels there's still room for improvement in their game as they head into a doubleheader on Saturday against Swift Current and Weyburn.

“We're going to be focusing on using all of our players, making sure that we're making accurate passes and playing the ball through to our forwards, and making sure that we're playing as a team,” Evans said.

For Central, they feel that are still a few areas that they need to fine tune moving forward.

“Finishing is a big one and getting cleaner, crisper passes out there and communicating as a team,” said senior Emily Pinter. “Other than that, we've got most of the stuff down pretty good.”

Peacock will take on Swift Current at 10:30am on Saturday and then battle Weyburn at 2:45pm, while Central is off until Tuesday when they host the Caronport Cougars.

In other action on Thursday, the Cougars were shutout 6-0 by the Vanier Spirits.

Clair Snyder paced the Vanier attack with a pair of goals, while Gabrielle Sanson, Alexis Jones, Kirah Brown and Emily Reidy also scored in the win for the Spirits.

Caronport will also be in action this weekend, facing Weyburn at 10:30am and Swift Current at 2:45pm. Vanier returns to the pitch on Tuesday to take on Peacock.
