The Regina Thunder pulled off a major upset in the Prairie Football Conference semifinals on Sunday.

A 13-point fourth quarter helped propel the Thunder to a 24-21 win over the Edmonton Huskies and into the PFC title game.

Moose Jaw’s Sawyer Buettner finished 18-of-32 for 284 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions in the win.  He rushed for 31 yards, including a fourth quarter touchdown that helped power the comeback.

Buettner connected with fellow Peacock Collegiate grad Levi Paul on seven passes for a team-high 76 yards.

The Thunder’s defence forced six turnovers in the win, including an interception from Assiniboia’s Carson Bell.

Regina had finished the regular season at 5-3, while the Huskies were 7-1 and had beat the Thunder by 32 points just three weeks ago.

This is Regina’s first trip to the PFC championship game since 2013.  The Thunder will meet their provincial rivals, the Saskatoon Hilltops, with the title on the line on Sunday in the Bridge City.

The Hilltops advanced into the final for the 11th straight season with a 28-21 win over the Winnipeg Rifles on Sunday.
