The Regina Thunder couldn’t knock off the top team in the Prairie Football Conference over the weekend.

The Thunder went into Edmonton and dropped a 62-30 game to the undefeated Huskies on Sunday at Clarke Park.

Moose Jaw’s Sawyer Buettner completed 23-of-42 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns, but had two interceptions as well in the loss.

Fellow Peacock grad Levi Paul had a big day with nine catches for 118 yards and a touchdown.

A slow start and rough finish cost the Thunder in the game. Regina fell behind 11-0 in the first quarter and trailed 32-17 at halftime after a back-and-forth second quarter.

The Thunder came out of the gate strong in the third quarter, cutting Edmonton’s lead down to five points, but the Huskies exploded for 30 points in the fourth quarter to roll to the win.

Regina’s record falls to 4-2 after the loss and they dropped into third place in the conference, while Edmonton remains in first place with a 6-0 record.

The next action for the Thunder comes on Sunday when they host the Calgary Colts at Mosaic Stadium. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
