Brandon scored three power-play goals Tuesday and went on to beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 8-3 at the Subway WHL Hub in Regina.

Brandon was the hungrier of the two teams in the opening period.  They were hard on pucks inside the Moose Jaw zone which led to extra attack time and an 18-8 advantage on the shot clock.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring at 4:34 when Ty Thorpe finished a rush up the ice, and then at 8:29, Thorpe scored his second of the period to extend their lead.

Brandon went up 3-0 at 14:45 when another rush up the ice ended with Vincent Iorio's goal.

Moose Jaw was quick to respond after the Wheat Kings third goal.  19 seconds later, Riley Krane took a hit in the neutral zone to spring Brayden Yager, who drove to the Brandon left circle and then snapped a shot past the glove on goalie Connor Ungar.

Brandon went back up by three after a Nolan Ritchie power-play goal with 2:34 remaining in the period.

20 seconds later, the Warriors were given a penalty shot when a Brandon player covered the puck in the Wheat Kings crease.  Yager was sent over the boards and had a good look at the Brandon net, but unfortunately, Ungar made the left pad save to keep Moose Jaw down by three.

Close to six minutes into the second period, Brandon extended their lead on Lynden McCallum’s team-leading 11th goal.

As the second period went on, the Warriors started to dig in and play “hard hockey” which led to a 20-16 advantage on the period shot clock.

At 12:15, Daemon Hunt set up Brayden Yager inside the left Brandon circle where he one-timed his second goal of the game.  Then at 15:35 and working on the power-play, Jagger Firkus took a shot from inside the right circle that found its way to the back of the net for his fourth of the season.

Moose Jaw continued to create pressure but they found themselves back down by three entering the second intermission after Ridly Greig scored a late power-play goal.

The third period was like the second, the Warriors had pressure and outshot the Wheat Kings 12-10, but they were not able to add to their goal total.

Instead, Brandon added an early power-play goal from Tyson Zimmer and a late even-strength marker from Reid Perepeluk and beat the Warriors 8-3.

Brayden Yager led the Warriors with two goals and three points, while on the other side of the ice, Ty Thorpe finished with two goals, Nolan Ritchie had a goal and three points, and Braden Schneider had three assists.

Moose Jaw outshot the Wheat Kings 32-26 in the final two periods but Brandon took the game total 44-40.  The Warriors were 1-for-4 on the power-play and Brandon was 3-for-5.

The Warriors have Wednesday off to get ready for a Thursday night battle against Prince Albert, the Country 100 PreGame Show starts at 7:40 pm.

On Saturday, they have a rematch with the Wheat Kings and then on April 19th they finish off their regular-season series with the Raiders.
