Moose Jaw’s Marie Wright and Canada’s wheelchair curling team have moved into a playoff position at the 2018 Paralympic Games.

Canada scored a big 8-5 win over previously unbeaten China on Monday night and then followed that up with a 6-5 extra end win over the United States on Tuesday morning.

Those two wins put Canada’s record at 5-2, which has them alone in third place behind China and Korea at 6-1.

Canada had lost back-to-back games going into their meeting with China and they trailed 5-1 after four ends, but the Canadians caught fire late, scoring two in the fifth, stealing four in the sixth and then adding one more in the seventh for the win.

After that big win, Canada rode that momentum into their meeting with the United States, but the Americans gave them everything that they could handle.

The U.S. opened with a deuce in the first and then stole one in the second to go in front 3-0 early. Canada responded with four straight singles to take a 4-3 lead after six ends.

The Americans moved back in front with another deuce in the seventh. Canada was able to tie the game in the eighth and then stole one in the ninth for the win.

Canada will now take on the Neutral Paralympic Athletes at 11:35 p.m. Sask time on Tuesday night. They meet up with Slovakia at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday morning.
