The Moose Jaw Storm Under-18 team are champions following their 6-5 overtime win at the Tearing Up The Turf tournament this past weekend at Yara Center.

It was a mainly one sided game in the first half, as Moose Jaw went up 3-0. The Regina club came back quickly in the second half, scoring back to back to draw within a goal. In the final half of play, 7 goals were recorded between the two teams making the score 5-5. In the 5 minute overtime, Moose Jaw scored around the 3 minute mark and played solid defence to lead them to the victory.

Coach  Jordan Jeffery expressed his joy with the team following their win.

"Can't fault any of these guys. I've coached most of these guys before in previous seasons and age groups and this was the

best they have ever played across an entire weekend."

The team's struggles in the second half may have come because of a shortage of substitutes.

Jeffery says that it was tough getting the win with a short bench.

"We only had one substitute and we couldn't actually put him in because he's coming back from a concussion. After a while, when you don't have a solid rotation, your guys can get tired, but I'm just glad that we saw it through to the end and got the win."

The Under-16 girls were in the finals in their division, with a different finish.

The girls game was tied at the end of regulation time and after the 5 minute overtime, forcing penalty kicks.

After Moose Jaw's first 5 kickers missed, the 5th kicker from the Minnedosa club kicked one past the Moose Jaw keeper to secure the 3-2 victory.

Girls coach Johanna Flegel was proud of the team's accomplishments, despite the loss.

"Phenomenal effort. We had one practice beforehand and the whole tournament was great. I'm happy and proud of everyone and everything they did."

The Under-16 boys from Moose Jaw were also in the final for their division, though they came up short with a 4-0 loss.
