The Moose Jaw U11 AA Prairie Dogs were hitting the ball very well last night against the Regina White Sox, culminating in a 15-1 win.

A lot of hard hit balls made it to the fence at Gattinger Diamond.

Prairie Dogs head coach Craig Flanagan talked about how they've been able to get good at hitting.

“We work on hitting a lot at practice,” Flanagan said. “I’m dragging up the L screen fairly close, and the kids are getting lots of reps hitting off a live arm. I throw batting practice myself. We’ve got some stronger second year kids on the team, and when they make contact, the ball is going to go.”

Flanagan talked about his team's strategy going to the plate.

“I really like how aggressive our team is swinging the bat,” he said, “I like to side or coach that way, that if we get anything close to the plate, I want to see our kids swinging and making contact, and I saw a lot of that (Wednesday night). The pitching was pretty impressed with as well.”

Flanagan did also mention that they team’s focus hasn’t been as sharp as it could be early in games, but he attributes that to having to get ready quickly for the shorter, later ball season.

Their next game is in Lumsden Monday.
