By largely limiting mental errors to close to nonexistent, the U14 Ice girls fastball team won a pair of games last night over the visiting Regina Royals at Optimist Park

Ice head coach Paul Litzenberger has been pleased with where their focus is during the games.

"The things I really like is they know their positions well, they minimize mistakes, but they swing the bat," Litzenberger said.  "There's not one batter out here that sits there with the bat on their shoulder hoping for a walk. I think if you talked to every one of them, they'd be 'I don't want to walk to first, I came up here to hit the ball.' So they take chances and they're a hard-working, fun team."

There were some well-struck balls and alert baserunning from the Ice, who won the games 8-3 and 10-4.

Litzenberger's team has a lot going for it this year.

"I think they're a mature group, they're fun to be around, they know their jobs and they play their roles well, and they're having fun doing it," he said. "Every game we try to have a bit of a theme if you will. The last game was confidence, not to be confused with arrogance. We're a confident team and confidence breeds with everybody else to know that no matter what else happens, everybody's got everybody's backs."

Haily Molde and Ashley Breitkreuz scored a pair of runs each in the first game, while Molde and Callie Klemenz each pitched well.

Macey Litzenberger scored three times in the second game, walking and hitting a single and a double. Waverley DeMassi struck out five in her three innings of pitching, allowing only a single run on one hit and three walks. Peyton Mengel didn't allow a run in her two innings to close out the game.
