The Gold Medal Game is set at the 2011 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup here in Moose Jaw after Team Alberta finished off a perfect round robin with a 5-1 win over Team Saskatchewan.  Team Manitoba clinched a spot in the final as well with a 6-4 win over Team BC.

Alberta 5 Saskatchewan 1

Brayden Point continued his run at the tournament in leading Team Alberta to their third straight win in the round robin 5-1 over Saskatchewan on Saturday morning.

Point added a goal and two points to his tournament scoring lead.  He now has five goals and seven points in three games.

Tyler Wong had a pair of goals and three points as well for Alberta and sits in second place on the scoring leaderboard with five points on the tournament.

For Saskatchewan their goal scoring struggles continued as they had chances early in the game, but just couldn’t capitalize with Warriors second round pick Josh Uhrich scoring their lone goal.

Ty Mappin and Reid Nemeth were the other goal scorers for Team Alberta.  Mappin took player of the game honours for Alberta, while Colin Shirley won the award for Saskatchewan.

Manitoba 6 BC 4

Team Manitoba booked their ticket to Sunday’s Gold Medal Game by holding on to a 6-4 win over Team BC.

Manitoba had a two goal lead after the first period on goals by Adam Brooks and Ryley Lindgren.  Brooks extended that lead early in the second as well, but a pair of goals from BC made it 4-2 for Alberta heading into the second intermission.

Mitchell Skapski scored early in the third to pull BC within one, but Jayce Hawryluk restored the two goal lead just a few minutes later for Manitoba.

BC was pressing late in the third after Jake Virtanen got his second of the game with seven minutes to go, but Brooks fired his hat trick goal into the empty net to end any chance of a comeback for BC.

BC outshot Manitoba 41-28, but Ty Edmonds stood tall for the second straight game in the Team Manitoba net to preserve the win.

Manitoba and Alberta will square for the second straight time in the Gold Medal Game at 3pm on Sunday.  BC will take on Saskatchewan in the Bronze Medal Game at 11am.
