The 2011 Western Canada Under 16 Challenge Cup at Mosaic Place provided four days of stellar hockey for Moose Jaw fans.  Team Alberta dominated their way to a second straight title, going undefeated through the tournament.

Gold Medal Game - Alberta 10 Manitoba 4

Team Alberta started scoring early and never slowed down as they captured the Gold Medal on Sunday afternoon with a 10-4 win over Team Manitoba.  The game was a rematch of the inaugural final back in 2009, which Alberta also won 6-4 over Manitoba.

Alberta got four goals in the first period with Tanner MacMaster, Reid Nemeth , Ty Mappin and Conner Bleackley all finding twine.

Manitoba started quick in the second period though with goals from Ryley Lindgren and Maverick Rafter in the first minute of the frame.  They also outshot Alberta 20-7 in the period, but Alberta never quit coming and would have a 7-3 lead heading in the second break.

Alberta were the ones to get the quick goal to open the third period when Aaron Irving beat Ty Edmonds just 36 seconds in the final frame and Alberta cruised the rest of the way for a 10-4 win.

Moose Jaw Warriors draft pick Brayden Point finished with four assists in the game and 11 points to lead the tournament.

Jonny Hogue stopped 29-of-32 shots to pick up his second win of the tournament.  Edmonds made 23 saves in the loss.

Bronze Medal Game - BC 5 Saskatchewan 4

It looked like a goaltender duel in the early going of the Bronze Medal Game between Team BC and the host Team Saskatchewan, but BC exploded in the third to skate to a 5-4 win.

Saskatchewan led 1-0 heading into the final period after a late second period goal by Moose Jaw native Rhett Gardner, his first of the tournament.

BC couldn't be stopped to start the third period though, scoring four goals in the first seven minute of the period and after 2011 first overall pick Jake Virtanen scored midway through the frame BC held a comfortable 5-1 lead.

Saskatchewan kept coming though scoring three goals in the final seven minutes, but it wasn't enough as they could beat goalie Liam McLeod late and fell 5-4.

Saskatchewan's Reid Gardner and McLeod were named the players of the game.
