The U18 AAA Warriors have something they haven't had in seven months - a game.

Tentatively, the Warriors will be playing the Swift Current Legionnaires Oct. 25 in an exhibition game, their first game of the 2020-2021 season.

Warriors head coach Trevor Weisgerber was excited to hear last week that hockey will be going on this season.

"With practicing here, we didn't really know when we were going to get started," he said. "With not knowing anything, we were just kind of going day by day, and we didn't think it would happen that soon. So once they came out and said, realistically we could start next weekend with exhibition games, to say the least, we were pretty excited."

It's been a bit of a surreal time in the minor hockey world and some things will be getting close to normal in the coming weeks. The Warriors have another exhibition game tentatively scheduled for the November 1 weekend in Regina against the Pat Canadians, and then the regular season for them will start the following weekend.

"It's nice to get those two exhibition games in to see where you're at, and the work that you're putting in," Weisgerber said. "We're not going to play this weekend coming up, but we're going to play the following weekend. So we'll have another good two weeks of practice and systems and things like that, and then we'll play the following weekend."
The regular season schedule hasn't been released yet but Weisgerber is anticipating that for the time being, they'll see a lot of fellow teams in the southern half of the league. This would mean a steady diet of Swift Current, Regina, Notre Dame, Yorkton and the new team in Estevan.

"We'll play those five teams to start here, and the other thing is we have to play them back to back," Weisgerber said. "We're just playing on weekends, so it would be, say, Friday-Sunday, and then we'd have the week off and then we'd play another team the following weekend and it would be a home and home with them."

Schedules are still tentative at this point, but Weisgerber believes the full schedule will be out "sooner than later."
