The U18 AAA Warriors won a pair of games over the weekend over the Swift Current Legionnaires to extend their season to 4-and-0.

While the Warriors lagged a bit at the end of Sunday's 4-2 win at Mosaic Place, Warriors head coach Trevor Weisgerber felt they played well enough on the weekend.

“We played very well in Swift, especially the first two periods in Swift,” Weisgerber said. “(Sunday), the first was fine but the second we played really well. The third, we were ok again. I thought the guys played well for the most part on the weekend.”

Goals Sunday were scored by Anthony and Wyatt Wilson, Atley Calvert and Matt Perkins, while Friday’s tallies were marked by Kirk Mullen, with a pair, Hayden Wilm, Anthony Wilson, Maximus Wanner and Calvert.

Kael DePape saved 24 in the shutout Friday, while Jaxson Taupert stopped 24 of 26 in the home win.

Bad habits are something the Warriors don’t want to be getting involved in, even through their winning streak.

“We always talk about habits and doing things properly and working and competing all the time,” said Weisgerber. “Our biggest thing is doing things and playing the game the right way. And whether it’s lopsided either way, you want to make sure it’s always good habits and doing things properly. For the most part it was good, but at times, guys do get away from it and that’s where you want to kind of squash it.”

The Warriors are now the only undefeated team left in the southern division of the league, and they have a winning streak that includes regular season, exhibition and playoffs that stretches back to February. They’ve outscored their opposition 18-5 in their four regular-season wins this season.

But the Regina Pat Canadians will provide a different challenge for the Warriors this weekend. As loaded with offensive talent as anyone, the Pat C’s have pumped in 30 goals this year.

It’ll take a lot of work at practice and watching video to make sure the Warriors are ready for Regina.

“It should be fun. We’re looking forward to it,” Weisgerber said. “We probably would have had them last year in the final. It’ll be fun just to play those guys and it’s always a good rivalry between the two of us.”
