Moose Jaw Warrior Brayden Point scored once and picked up an assist as Team Pacific just outscored Russia in a 8-7 overtime win to open the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

 

Russia scored three times in the third to send the game to overtime, but Joseph Hicketts of the Victoria Royals won it for Pacific just 59 seconds into the extra frame.

 

Josh Uhrich, Miles Warkentine, Rhett Gardner and Team West couldn’t find the back of the net in a 4-0 shut out loss by Sweden in their tournament opener on Saturday.

 

Pacific gets Sunday off, while West will face off with Russia.

The Moose Jaw Generals skated to a 4-4 tie with the Czech Republic team at the Mac’s Tournament in Calgary.

 

Moose Jaw fell behind 3-0 in the second period, but Ben Verrall finally got them on the board midway through the frame and a big third period helped the Generals finish with a tie against Pirati Chomutov.

 

Donovan Neuls, Riley Cannon and Trey Tendler all scored in the third with Tendler’s goal coming with five seconds left to salvage the tie.

 

The Generals are now 0-1-2 now at the tournament and have an outside shot at a playoff spot.  They’ll need a win Sunday morning against the Calgary Royals.

The Moose Jaw Bantam AA Warriors mounted a come back, but came up just short against the Littleton Colorado Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Mosaic Place.

 

The Hawks won 7-6, but Moose Jaw trailed 7-2 at one point in the third and fought their way back to give themselves a chance.

 

The Warriors return to league play on Thursday against Swift Current.

The second annual Umbro Christmas Cup is happening at the Moose Jaw Field House this weekend.

 

The event is pitting two teams made up of local players and split up into Canada and the United States squaring off in a three-game series.

 

The teams have tied the first two games with Friday night match going to a 5-5 tie and then Saturday’s featuring less scoring, but still ending in a tie at 1-1.

 

They will decide a winner coming up on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm in the final.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly says the league and the Players' Association will hold some more ``informational sessions'' on Sunday morning to go over the owners' latest contract offer.  But he says nothing is planned beyond that.  

 

The two sides spent much of Saturday talking to each other on a conference call going over the nearly 300 page proposal.

 

The lockout is into its 106th day on Sunday.
