SrGirlsVBall-VanierPeacock-Sept26Two Peacock players go up for a block on Tuesday night against Vanier.

The High School Senior Girls Volleyball League was on the court on Tuesday night for a night full of action at both Vanier and Central.  The Vanier Spirits were able to come away with the win a hard fought five set battle with the Peacock Toilers, while Central picked up a straight sets win over Rouleau.

"They figured out what they needed to do, they're a smart, mature group of girls, they knew what they had to get done to win and they just did it," explain Vanier coach Megan Smith.

Vanier lost the opening set 25-18, but battled back to take the next two, 25-13 and 25-16.  The Toilers responded in the fourth and were able to steal a 25-19 win.  Vanier came out hard in the final set and built up an 8-0 lead before letting Peacock back into it.  They finally finished off the five set battle with a 25-17 win.

"We started off really strong, we did what we needed to do, but in the second set, we started making mistakes in things that we needed to do well, but we did pull through," said Smith after the game.  "We had a little bit of confusion in the fourth set, but the girls really showed maturity and they finished well in the fifth, so we're happy."

Peacock coach Jennivr Prokopetz says her team really put up a fight throughout the game and she was happy with the effort shown throughout the game, "We're really learning, we've got a really young team and so we're making a lot of errors, but they're early season errors and ones that we expect to be making.  The girls are staying really positive and taking the things that we've practiced and putting them into the game.

"We're really happy with (the game), it was good competition and Vanier played really well.  They served aggressively and it was just a really good match for us to play."

Prokopetz adds that the team has a lot of talent on it, but they will just need time to develop it, "We've got a really good serving game and I think we're going to continue to work on that.  We're slowly going to develop our offence, so we're working on just being a cohesive unit and working together as six people on the court, and I think that's going to get better and better."

The Cyclones straight sets win over Rouleau didn't come easy as they won 25-18, 27-25 and 25-22.  There was also a girls game in Caronport with Riverview/Cornerstone coming out on top in five sets 25-18, 23-25, 14-25, 25-17 and 21-25.

In boys action at Central, the Cyclones knocked off Rouleau in straight sets 25-11, 25-15 and 25-5.
