Vanier QB Haydenn Terrian breaks off a run against Yorkton in Week 1 at Gutheridge Field.

The Vanier Vikings will try to bounce back from two straight losses on Tuesday afternoon in Moose Jaw High School Football when they host the 1-1 Weyburn Eagles at Gutheridge Field.

The Vikings have started off their 2011 League Championship title defence with a 29-8 loss to the Yorkton Raiders and a 24-14 defeat by the Swift Current Colts, but the team isn't panicking as they know this was a rebuilding year.

"Certainly the 0-2 start is a disappointment, but it's something that we're realistic about because we know that this was a year that we would have a lot of changes," said head coach Doug Panko, who directed the team to a perfect 6-0 regular season last year.  "As coaches it's something that we're going to work with."

Panko says they haven't played bad in either of their losses and they just need to work on playing a full 60 minutes, "Much of where games have gotten away from us is in the late stages of the game, so we have to work on overall execution throughout the game."

Despite the winless start for the Vikings, there have been some bright spots.  Receiver Matt Morris has been outstanding so far with 14 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown through the two games and first year quarterback Haydenn Terrian has been a surprise with at least 175 yards passing and 40 yards rushing in both of the games.

"Haydenn would be the pleasant surprise of the 2012 season," said Panko.  "He's just demonstrated a willingness to learn and really brought forward some great athleticism, so it's been a big part of our season thus far.  He's done well."

Terrian says he was expecting it to take longer for him to adjust to playing high school football after not playing since he was 11 years old, "I was expecting it to be way faster and harder, but I picked it up much better than I thought.  I'm just having fun with it, it's been a good experience."

This is the first meeting between Vanier and Weyburn in league play and after looking at game film, Panko says he's expecting a big and physical Eagles team, "Defensively it appears that they're going to pose some challenges for us and their offence was executing extremely well in their last game.

"We're not the biggest of teams, so just dealing with the physical aspect of the game is going to be a challenge for us against Weyburn."

The Vikings might not be big, but they still have speed and Panko says they will be looking to us that to their advantage, "As the old addage goes, you can't coach speed, and certainly it can't hurt us, so we'll use all the tools we can."

Terrian says he thinks there might be some opportunities for the offence to go deep on the Eagles, "I think over the top in the air with the passing game (will work)."

The Vikings and Eagles hit the gridiron at Gutheridge Field on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30pm.  There's two other games out-of-town as well, with 1-0 Peacock traveling to Yorkton to face the 1-0 Raiders and the 1-1 Swift Current Colts in Estevan to face 0-2 Elecs.
