The Scotties Tournament of Hearts is returning to Moose Jaw in February, and they're looking for lots of volunteers.

People can complete their registrations online or at the Ford Curling Centre next Wednesday. Volunteer chair Heather Eby said there are a lot of positive experiences about volunteering for such a major event.

“There’s lots of Moose Jaw people, but lots of out of town people, so Mosaic Place is full and people are really excited to be there,” she said. “The curlers of course are excited to be there, because they’re vying for not just to win the Scotties, but to go on to the next level, the worlds, so that’s exciting for them. You really get to be a part of something great.”

Those who want to volunteer right away can go to www.curling.ca/2020scotties/volunteers

Everything can be done online, which includes a picture upload and paying volunteer fees.

“That’s really slick for people who are really good at the computer, but for people who are struggling with that a bit, we are having a special registration event (at the curling centre),” said Eby.

People can expect to be able to commit to about 30 hours over the course of the tournament.

“The great thing about volunteering is you’re there for your shifts, but then you’re also able to be there any other time you want,” said Eby. “So you can watch other draws and games as you wish. It is a big commitment, but also a really fun week and a great way of being part of an exciting event.”

There is likely going to be a volunteer night just before the event.

Eby suggests those who think they can volunteer to get their names in early so the committees know who and how many people they have.

As part of the perks of volunteering, there’s also the idea of the spectacle of such a major event happening in Moose Jaw.

“And then of course when you go home and get to watch a little bit it of it on TV and see that it’s happening in Moose Jaw, it’s really really fun,” Eby said.
