It was a busy Monday for Moose Jaw Warriors general manager Alan Millar.

The Warriors swung two trades, adding 17-year-old forward Kjell Kjemhus from Prince George and 19-year-old forward Luke Ormsby from Everett.

"We had our eye out to try to improve our team up front and improve our depth," said Millar. "We've had some things that have happened in the last week or so that have put us down in numbers, so these moves were important to make and they were moves that we were able to make a reasonable price."

Moose Jaw sent a 2020 seventh-round pick to the Cougars in exchange for Kjemhus and it cost them a sixth-round pick in the 2022 WHL Bantam Draft to get Ormsby from the Silvertips.

The Warriors were in need of some forward help following the departure of Ryan Peckford and Tyler Smithies last week, while Tate Popple and Keenan Taphorn also left games on the weekend with injuries.

Ormsby brings a load of experience to the Warriors' lineup, as he's played in the past two WHL Championship Series, winning the title in 2017 with Seattle and losing in 2018 with Everett.

"He's a veteran guy, he's got some speed, he's energy guy, he's a right shot, but what we really like about him is that he's got a ton of playoff experience, won a championship with Seattle and played in all six games in the WHL Championship Series last year," said Millar.

"We feel we've got a real good leadership group, but at the same time, we only have two 19-year-olds right now and Ormsby's experience brings a lot more than numbers, he's a guy that contributes in different ways, penalty killing, playing hard, getting under other players skin and he skates well."

Ormsby has played in 150 career WHL games, registering 11 goals and 24 points. He has three goals and six points in 25 games this season with the Silvertips. He also has 21 games of playoff experience.

Kjemhus brings the possibility of untapped potential to the Warriors.

He was originally a fourth-round pick in 2016 by the Regina Pats and was dealt to Prince George last year as a key piece of the Jesse Gabrielle trade.

"He's a guy that can grow in the organization," said Millar. "In terms of the way that he plays the game, his work ethic and his compete, and as a 17-year-old, we feel he's a guy that we can invest in and he can grow up here."

In five games this season with the Cougars, the five-foot-10, 186-pound forward has two assists in five games. He posted two goals and four points in 25 games with Prince George last season.

During the 2016-17 season, Kjemhus played 28 games with the Pursuit of Excellence's Midget Prep team and finished with three goals, 12 points and 79 penalty minutes.

"Sometimes in these situations when you're short staffed and looking to build out your roster, there are bodies that you can add that are just bodies and then there are bodies that you can add and go a little bit younger and guys that you can invest in and grow," said Millar.

"Both kids are quality, hard-working guys that we think fit into our lineup and the way that we've been playing, so we're happy to add these two young guys to our club today."

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at Mosaic Place.
