The Moose Jaw Warriors lead the Western Hockey League with 26 wins and 150 goals for; they’re riding a six-game winning streak and have points in 12 straight games as they get set to close out their pre-Christmas schedule with two home games this weekend.

The Warriors know that with all the success that they’ve had so far this season, they don’t want to let up heading into meetings with the Kamloops Blazers and Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

“We want to finish off the beginning of the year strong, so adding two more wins to that column is going to be huge for us and make the Christmas break that much better,” said forward Jayden Halbgewachs. “These two games are pretty big games for us and we’ve just got to get the job done.”

Every point counts right now in a tight East Division and as the players start to look towards a week off over the holidays, the key is keep the focus on the ice through the final buzzer on Saturday.

Goalie Brody Willms said they can’t let up and give away points this weekend, “We want to go into the break with confidence and on a good note,” he said. “It’s been a good start to the first half and we want to end it on a good note.”

The Warriors haven’t faced either of their weekend opponents so far this season.

Friday will see the Warriors square off with the Blazers for the first and only time this season. Kamloops has started their East Division road trip with two wins and two losses, including a 3-0 win over the Regina Pats on Wednesday.

The Blazers sit just below .500 with a 15-16-0-1 record.

“We need to play our game, we like to play fast and responsible in our end, so we’ve just got to keep doing that, working hard and being smart at the blue lines, not turning pucks over,” said forward Tanner Jeannot. “Just play fast, get some pucks on net and get some goals.”

Saturday’s game will be the first meeting of the season between the Warriors and Wheat Kings.  Moose Jaw leads Brandon by seven points for top spot in the East Division.

Brandon enters the weekend with wins in nine straight games, so Halbgewachs said they’re looking forward to matching up with them.

“It’s a huge game for us, it’s big in our division, it’s going to be a good test for us and we need to make sure that we bear down and come out with a win,” he said.

Puck drops at 7 p.m. on both games. The Pre-Game Show will hit the air at 6:40 p.m. on Country 100.
