In the final game of their seven-game road trip, the Moose Jaw Warriors established a quick pace and fought their way to a 3-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers Saturday at Canalta Centre.

Justin Almeida posted a goal and three points to lead the way for the Warriors in the win, which gives the Warriors a 6-0-1-0 record to finish their road trip through the B.C. and Central divisions. 

The action was fast and furious throughout the opening period as both teams raced up the ice and on the attack which meant that defensively both teams were challenged to protect their net.

Moose Jaw picked up the game’s first goal at 7:46 when Drae Gardiner took a shot from the right blue-line that was knocked down between the circles by Brayden Tracey, who then slid the puck to the left side of the net where Almeida, who scored his 17th of the year.

The quick pace continued in the second period as the teams did a good job coming up the ice in transition.

On the power play with under four minutes left in the period, Almeida had the puck inside the Tigers' right circle and then made a pass to Tracey in the low slot where he quickly scored his 19th of the season to give Moose Jaw a 2-0 lead.

Medicine Hat pushed hard to fight their way back into the game, they outshot the Warriors 10-5 in the third period and picked up a goal from Baxter Anderson seven and a half minutes to pull to within.

Inside the final ninety seconds of regulation, Medicine Hat pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.

With 54 seconds left in the game, Tristin Langan created a turnover high in the Moose Jaw zone and rushed up the ice alongside Almeida. As Langan came into the Tigers zone, he swung the puck over to Almeida who deposited it into the empty net to put the game away.

Almeida finished with two goals and three points, Tracey had a goal and two points, and Brodan Salmond made 26 saves.

The Warriors were 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

Moose Jaw captured 13 of a possible 14 points during the trip. Their overall record sits at 27-11-6-2 which has them in 3rd place in the East Division, three points back of Saskatoon for 2nd with three games in-hand.

The Warriors are now off until next weekend, Friday they’re back at home for a rematch against Medicine Hat and then on Saturday they’ll travel up to Prince Albert to battle the East Division-leading Raiders.
