Two old rivals collided on Valentine’s Day in Regina and the Moose Jaw Warriors walked away from the Queen City with two points after picking up a 6-3.

Brandon Schuldhaus, Tanner Jeannot and Jayden Halbgewachs scored two goals each to lead the Warriors to the win as they became the first team in the Western Hockey League to clinch a playoff spot.

Throughout the first period, both teams pushed the ice as they looked to set a consistent tone.

Moose Jaw picked up the game’s first goal at 6:53, when the Warriors dug the puck out of the Regina left circle on a face-off and fed Schuldhaus at the left point where he blasted a shot through traffic that beat Max Paddock for his fifth goal of the season.

Regina tied the game at one, when they sprung Cameron Hebig for a breakaway that he converted on at 12:57.

Moose Jaw took an early penalty in the second period and the Pats were able to capitalize, as Sam Steel gave them a 2-1 lead at 1:41.

Approaching the midway point of the period, the Warriors landed on back-to-back power plays, which allowed them to create pressure and pick up a game tying goal.

On the man advantage at 9:52, Vince Loschiavo moved the puck down to the right goal line for Jeannot, who then powered his way to the net and lifted the puck past Paddock for his 34th of the season.

Only 23 seconds later, Moose Jaw moved the puck to Schuldhaus at the left Regina line, he walked to the top of the circle and blasted a slap-shot for his second goal of the game.

With momentum swinging in their favour, the Warriors kept attacking and only 20 seconds after that, the Warriors charged back inside the Regina line where Halbgewachs took a pass and came inside the right circle where he ripped a shot over the block of Paddock for his WHL-leading 52nd goal to make it 4-2.

Six and a half minutes into the third period, the Warriors fought their way up the ice, Halbgewachs came in on the right and fed Jeannot streaking through the middle where he lifted in his second of the game.

Two minutes later, the Warriors were on the penalty kill and Regina fed Josh Mahura between the circles where his shot pulled the Pats back within two.

As Regina pressed in the final moments, the Warriors held their ground defensively and Halbgewachs added an empty net goal to finish the game.

Halbgewachs finished with four points; Jeannot and Schuldhaus had three points; Brett Howden picked up two assists; and Brody Willms made 33 saves.

Moose Jaw was 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
