The Moose Jaw Warriors scored three goals in the third period to come from behind and beat the Medicine Hat Tigers, 4-3, in a shootout on Saturday night at Canalta Centre.

Tristin Langan scored the lone goal in the shootout to win the game, while Brayden Tracey found the back of the net with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game for the Warriors. He finished with a goal and two points.

Throughout the first period, the Warriors had their chances to get on the scoreboard but they weren’t able to capitalize.

Instead, the Tigers finished on their chances and took a 2-0 lead in the first period.

At 15:16, the Tigers put a shot to the Moose Jaw net and the puck bounced around the Warriors crease and eventually came to Medicine Hat forward Hayden Ostir on the right side, where he snapped the puck in.

With 23 seconds left in the opening period, the Tigers created a neutral zone turnover and used the short ice to burst back inside Moose Jaw's line where Tyler Preziuso deflected it past Brodan Salmond to extend Medicine Hat’s lead.

Scoring chances were hard to come by in the second period, as both teams looked to buckle down defensively.

Moose Jaw was outshot, 9-6, in the middle period and they had the better chances than Medicine Hat, however, they weren’t able to finish their drives to the net and went into the second intermission still trailing by two.

Just 2:25 into the third period the Tigers went up 3-0 on a goal from Jaxon Steele.

With their backs against the wall, the Warriors found another gear.

Just over two minutes after the Tigers goal, Dalton Hamaliuk walked down the Medicine Hat left boards to the top of the circle where he then set up Tate Popple between the circles where his third of the season, which got the Warriors on the board.

For the rest of the third, the Warriors played with an edge and pinned the Tigers in their zone which led to a 16-4 advantage on the shot clock.

One of the adjustments that the Warriors made in the third period was moving Captain Josh Brook from defence to forward and on a line with Tristin Langan and Justin Almeida. The trio played with an edge, had the Tigers on their heels, and at 12:13, Brook scored his fifth of the season to make it a one-goal game.

As the clock winded down, the Warriors pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and the move paid off. With 19 seconds left in regulation, the Warriors moved the puck around the Medicine Hat zone and it landed on Justin Almeida’s stick on the top of the left circle. Almeida took a look towards the net and was able to send the puck to the right side of the Tigers crease where 17-year-old rookie Brayden Tracey deflect in his fourth of the season to tie the game at three.

In overtime, the Warriors controlled the puck for the majority of the extra period but they weren’t able to punch in a game-winner, which meant that for the first time this season the Warriors would see a shootout.

In the third round of the shootout and with neither team still without a goal, 20-year-old Tristin Langan jumped over the boards and when he got between the Tigers circles, he ripped a shot past Mads Sogaard to complete the comeback.

Jett Woo picked up two assists, while Brodan Salmond finished with 24 saves plus another three in the shootout.

Moose Jaw was outshot 21-13 after two periods but then ended up outshooting the Tigers 32-27. The Warriors didn’t receive a power play and finished 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors are now off until next weekend, when they’ll have a pair of home games, on Friday, the Saskatoon Blades are in town and then on Saturday, the Kootenay Ice make a stop at Mosaic Place.

The team will be without 16-year-old defenceman Daemon Hunt and Associate Coach Mark O’Leary who will be travelling next week to New Brunswick for the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
