It was a wild Wednesday night in Portland for the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Tribe battled back-and-forth against the Winterhawks, scoring late in regulation to force overtime and then falling 6-5 in overtime at the Memorial Coliseum.

Marc McNulty scored with 1:34 to go in regulation for the Warriors, but Portland's Keoni Texeira found the winner 3:13 into overtime that gave the Winterhawks the win.

Brett Howden scored twice and had three points in the loss for Moose Jaw, while McNulty and Dryden Hunt each had a goal and two points and Nikita Popugaev picked up two assists.

The loss drops the Warriors' record to 1-1-2-0 on their six-game U.S. Division road trip.

The Warriors have been looking for a strong start as of late and they had a great opportunity for one on Wednesday night after being given a power play just 12 seconds into the game, but they weren’t able to convert.

Portland was handed the man advantage just past the seven minute mark and was able to convert when Winterhawks import forward Rodrigo Abols deflected a point shot to make it 1-0.

Moose Jaw kept battling and just over four minutes later, they were able to get a game tying goal. Portland goalie Adin Hill played the puck behind his net to the Winterhawks right wall where Howden raced to the puck to keep it in the zone, after a nice passing play between Josh Brook and Dryden Hunt, they found Howden between the circles where his shot beat Hill along the ice.

Moose Jaw penalty kill was tested later in the period as in the final four minutes they were forced to kill a two-man advantage. The Tribe cleared the zone when they had their chances, limited Portland's shots when they were able to set up and when they got pucks to the net, Zach Sawchenko made a key save.

Portland broke the 1-1 tie while on the power play midway through the second period, however. At 11:05, Dominic Turgeon made a nice spin move to get around a Warrior inside the bottom left circle, then set up Paul Bittner, who beat Sawchenko blocker side.

Abols made it a two-goal game four minutes later, when he scored his second of the game with the teams playing four-on-four.

Moose Jaw got one of those goals back while on a late power play in the period as Nikita Popugaev blasted a shot from the right circle, the rebound came to Brett Howden on top of the left crease and he scored his second of the game.

Moose Jaw attacked the Portland zone in the third period and close to the two minute mark, Jayden Halbgewachs and Landon Quinney worked on the fore-check along the end boards, Quinney was able to push the puck to Tanner Jeannot on top of the crease where he scored his third of the year.

Five minutes later, Brett Howden led a rush up the ice and tossed the puck to Popugaev on the left wing, but the rookie wasn't able to get a shot away and instead, he dropped it to Hunt trailing the play for a shot between the circles that beat Adin Hill, giving Moose Jaw their first lead at 4-3.

Portland's power play produced a game-tying goal with just over seven minutes remaining, and they went up by one with three and a half to go on a Jack Dougherty shot.

Down a goal and with two and a half minutes left in regulation, Noah Gregor took a shot from the right circle that went off a shin pad and right to McNulty on the left circle where he let a wrist shot go that found the back of the net, tying the game at five.

The game went in to overtime and with just over two minutes to go, Portland set up Texeira for a shot that beat Sawchenko, giving Portland the narrow win.

Sawchenko made 33 saves in the loss for Moose Jaw, while the team was 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-6 on the penalty kill.
