Fifteen-year-old Brayden Yager has gotten off to a hot start in his rookie season with the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Yager scored his first goal in the WHL in a shootout against the Prince Albert Raiders on March 14 as the 15-year-old has gotten off to a hot start to the season.

His first points were against the Regina Pats on Tuesday with one goal and two assists. However, he did have a shootout goal against the Prince Albert Raiders on March 14 that didn’t count towards his stats sheet.

“You dream of that as a little kid and to finally get that one is huge,” he said

Yager was selected third overall in the first round of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft and he is proving to be a key player.

No tickets are being sold for the games, so fans and spectators have to watch from home, Yager says the hub setting has some advantages.

“Getting to know the guys, you’re always hanging out, playing cards, especially as a young guy. I think it's huge to start building a relationship with the guys.”

As one of the youngest players on the team, Yager says he’s learning a lot from veterans like Tate Popple.

“I think I could say many things I’ve learned from him but ever since day one he’s been very welcoming, he wears a letter on his jersey for a reason.”

Yager says he’s becoming more comfortable with the pace of the game.

The Warriors face off against the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday. Puck drop is at 4 p.m. You can listen to the game live on Country 100 with the Voice of the Warriors James Gallo.
