The Moose Jaw Warriors controlled much of the game, but needed a late comeback to force overtime and couldn't pull off the win against the Swift Current Broncos on Thursday night.

The last-place Broncos came into Mosaic Place and knocked off the Warriors 4-3 in overtime in the first game back following the Christmas break.

Moose Jaw picked up goals from Brayden Tracey and Keenan Taphorn in the final 1:09 of regulation, both with the goalie pulled, to steal away the Broncos' two-goal late.

In the extra period, rookie import forward Danill Stepanov had his stick break as he carried the puck out of the zone, the Broncos jumped on the miscue and defenceman Alex Moar finished off the game-winning goal just 1:58 into the three-on-three period.

In their first game after the Christmas break, the Warriors established a quick pace in the first period. They attacked the Broncos zone with an aggressive forecheck, which led to a 10-3 advantage on the shot clock but the game remained scoreless after the opening period.

When the second period opened, the Warriors kept pushing the puck to the Broncos net and Moose Jaw outshot Swift Current 20-7 in the middle frame but it was the visitors that snagged the game's first goal when Carter Chorney beat goalie Brodan Salmond on a diving play at 13:35.

The Warriors kept pushing towards the Broncos net and with just under two minutes left in the frame, they were finally rewarded, as Jett Woo punched in his sixth of the season from the right side of the crease to tie the game at one after two.

Swift Current took the lead at 14:29 of the third period when Matthew Culling rushed across the Moose Jaw right line and snuck a shot past Salmond.

Just under three minutes later, the Broncos added to their lead when a Matthew Stanley wrist shot from the blue-line deflected off a Warrior to make it 3-1.

Down by two late, the Warriors kept coming and with just over a minute left in regulation, the Warriors pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Justin Almeida controlled the puck inside the Swift Current left circle and was able to work it over to Tracey on the right side of the Bronco net where he put in his 11th of the year to make it a one-goal game.

Only 22 seconds later and with 47 seconds left in the game, they pulled their goalie again, this time, Langan had the puck in the right corner and set up Keenan Taphorn between the circles where his one-timer beat Broncos goalie Joel Hofer to tie the game at three.

Approaching the two-minute mark of the overtime period, the Broncos picked the puck off the neutral zone boards and drove in on an odd-man rush and finished with a goal from Moar to hand the Warriors a 4-3 loss.

Brayden Tracey finished with a goal and two points for the Warriors and Tristan Langan picked up two assists.

Moose Jaw outshot the Broncos, 42-21. They were 0-for-4 on the power play and didn't take a penalty in the loss.
