Matthew Gallant and Eric Alarie had two goals and three points each to lead the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 5-2 win over the Regina Pats in their preseason finale on Saturday night.

Atley Calvert added a goal and three points in the win, while Denton Mateychuk picked up two assists to cap off the preseason for the Warriors.

In his first preseason game, Alarie opened the scoring for Moose Jaw with a power play goal just 7:55 into the game.

The Warriors extended that lead to 2-0 when Calvert picked up his first of the preseason, giving Moose Jaw a two-goal advantage after 20 minutes.

Regina started strong in the second period and capitalized when Zack Smith found the back of the net to cut the Warriors lead down to 2-1.

Moose Jaw responded just over two minutes later though with back-to-back goals from Gallant, which came only 18 seconds apart to put the Warriors in front 4-1 after two periods.

In the third, Regina again cut into Moose Jaw’s lead with a goal from Sloan Stanick with 8:03 to play, but the Warriors would seal the win with Alarie’s second of the game coming with five minutes left in the third.

The Pats outshot Moose Jaw, 34-29, but Carl Tetachuk and Brett Mirwald combined to pick up the win in goal for the Warriors.

Tetachuk started and made 17 saves, while Mirwald came in halfway through the second period and turned away 15 shots.

Pats goalie Spencer Welke made 24 saves in the loss.

The Warriors were 1-for-2 on the power play and killed off both of the Pats’ chances on the man advantage.

The Warriors finish the preseason with a 4-1 record. Moose Jaw will open the regular season on Friday when they host the Saskatoon Blades at Mosaic Place.
