This season’s top performers on and off the ice for the Moose Jaw Warriors were honoured before Saturday’s game at Mosaic Place.

Jayden Halbgewachs and Zach Sawchenko shared the big award of the night as they were named co-Players of the Year. It’s the seventh time in franchise history that two players have shared the top honour.

“It huge,” said Sawchenko after the game. “We’ve got a special group here and I don’t think it’s fair to really single out one of the guys. Me and Jayden were big parts of this team, but we can’t do our job properly unless we’ve got all 20 guys on board.”

Halbgewachs put together a big night on Saturday with four goals and seven points to finish the year with 50 goals, 51 assists and 101 points in 71 games. He also took home the C & E Mechanical Most Sportsmanlike Player, the RBC Top Scorer and the YARA Belle Plain Fan’s Choice awards.

Sawchenko appeared in 51 games for the Warriors, posting a 30-14-6-1 record with 2.79 goals against average and a 0.917 save percentage. He finished eighth in the WHL in goals against average, had the top save percentage in the Eastern Conference, fourth in the WHL, and ranked tenth in wins.

The 19-year-old netminder received two other awards on the night, taking him the Emerald Custom Creations 3-Stars Award as well as the Vanier Scholastic Achievement Award.

19-year-old forward Tanner Jeannot received three awards as well, he was named the Cody Smuk Un-Sung Hero and took home the Mark McKay Hustle Award. Jeannot also shared the Moose Jaw Co-op Humanitarian Award with Captain Brett Howden for their contributions to the community throughout the season.

Josh Brook won the Canada Safeway Top Defenceman award. The 17-year-old set new career-highs in goals (8), assists (32) and points (40) in his second WHL season.

18-year-old defenceman Colin Paradis was named the Andy’s Transmission Most Improved Player, while 16-year-old defenceman Jett Woo captured the McDonalds Rookie of the Year award.

Josh Thrower and Brayden Burke were also honoured with the WOW! Factor Media Milestone Awards after Thrower played in his 300th WHL game this season and Burke eclipsed the 200-point plateau during the year.

The Warriors will open the WHL Playoffs coming up on Friday when they host the Swift Current Broncos at Mosaic Place. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday morning.
