A season high seven-game homestand for the Moose Jaw Warriors ended on Saturday with a dramatic 4-3 overtime win over the Vancouver Giants at Mosaic Place.

Jayden Halbgewachs finished the game with his sixth of the season on a highlight reel play just 52 seconds into the overtime period.  Halbgewachs posted a goal and two points in the win.

Captain Brett Howden assisted on the winner for his third helper of the game, while Jett Woo picked up a goal and two points.

The game was tight throughout, Vancouver pressed the Warriors in the opening moments of the game and had an early 4-0 advantage on the shot clock.

Just over three minutes into the first period, the Giants won a face-off in the Moose Jaw zone, defenceman Kaleb Bulych let a low shot go from the point that went off of former Warrior Brayden Watts skate and in to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors found their stride later in the frame. Just past the midway point and on the attack, Halbgewachs swung the puck to the right line for Woo, who let a high wrist shot go that beat goalie Todd Scott to tie the game at one.

Three minutes into the second period, Howden jumped on a loose puck and swung it to Justin Almeida on the right wing, where he zipped a shot past the goalie for his fifth of the year.

Moose Jaw went up by two at 10:24, when Brayden Burke spun on the right Vancouver goal line and lifted the puck over the goalie for a power play goal.

In the back half of the second the Giants pressed and at 12:09, Watts scored his second of the game to finish off a Vancouver rush and then with just over two minutes left in the frame, defenceman Dylan Plouffe put a shot off a Warrior and over the goal line to tie the game at three heading to the third period.

The third period was tight as both teams pushed hard for the go-ahead goal.  The teams combined for 21 shots in the frame, but neither was able to notch a winner which sent the game in to overtime.

Just 52 seconds into the extra period the Warriors sprung Halbgewachs, who burst down the Vancouver right wall and then cut to the net before showing great patience and as the Giants goalie went down he put the puck upstairs for the game winner.

Moose Jaw outshot the Giants, 32-26, while they were 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors finished their seven-game homestand with a record of 6-1 and 7-1 overall.  They’ll open a seven-game, 12-day road trip on Tuesday in Cranbrook with their second meeting of the season against the Kootenay Ice.  Catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the Westrum Lumber Timber Mart Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m.
